Documentary Filmmaker / Educator
Catherine Mary Macías
Catherine Mary Macías has always believed in taking action rather
than merely voicing opinions, making something happen rather than
merely wishing it to be true. This is her attempt to bring to light
the victims of T4, whose stories have long been forgotten.
Catherine Mary Macías became interested in the T4 Program when she
stumbled across information about a victim who had been killed because
he had a hearing disability. Realizing that she had a greater hearing
loss than some of the victims of T4, Catherine was impassioned to
share the stories of these human beings, whom she considers to be
part of her heritage as a person with a disability.
Catherine Mary Macías received her Bachelors Degree in Philosophy,
and in History & Sociology of Science from the University of Pennsylvania.
She earned a Master’s Degree in Physical and Health Impairments
and a Teaching Credential in Mild to Moderate Disabilities from California
State University, Los Angeles. Her studies have centered on the philosophy
and sociology of empathy as it relates to individuals with disabilities
and cancer patients. She has been interested in the arts, especially
film and photography since childhood, and has studied film intensively
with the highly respected Jim Pasternak and through courses at UCLA.
For the past five years Catherine has been a teacher for students
with disabilities and previous to this she was a Family Support Specialist
for Foothill AIDS Project, where she worked with children and families
who had or were affected by AIDS/HIV.
